sentences are generally treated somewhat in the same
way.

§ 113. The indirect narration (oratio obliqua) is
rarely used in Persian: its place is generally taken
by the direct narration (oratio recta), which is often
introduced by kih (‘that’): as, “The servant said that
his master was not at home”; Ndulcar guft Ic-ih ‘Sz‘ilzib
taslzrfj‘nd-ddrad’. This, of course, changes the tense of
the verb in the latter clause.
