§ 185. The Arabic words 33 (Irreg. genitive
Sing. L3,3, used as Nom. in Persian: Plural L5,33), ‘owner’,
‘possessor’, (19’ ‘nothingness’, and ‘other than’, are
of frequent use in Persian in composition with other
words of Arabic origin. Their use will be best under-

jugs ‘possessed of grandeur’, ‘grand’, ‘eminent’:

stant use as single words in Persian, so that the
student ought to learn their meanings. Many others
